Customize NetSuite Income Statement to Show Expenses by Department

A client recently asked us if we could customize the NetSuite Income statement so they could see expenses grouped by department. Turns out that NetSuite financial reports has a handy way to do just that.

Navigate to Reports > Financial > Income Statement, then click the “Customize” button. In the “Edit layout” screen, click on the Expense section of the layout.

In the Account Section: Expense pane, simply select “Department” in the Group by dropdown, and select “Account” in the Then by dropdown (note the following screenshots are from a NetSuite demo account).

If you view the details from here you will see that it retains the grouping automatically, without also having to customize the detail report.
